WHAT'S GOING AROUND?

We are currently seeing a spike in Bronchiolitis (RSV) and Influenza, and we are continuing to see cases of COVID-19. Below are two helpful videos for identifying signs and symptoms of these illnesses, as well as steps for prevention. We encourage all of our patients to get their Flu and Covid vaccines as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please contact your provider.

WHAT TO DO FOR AFTER-HOURS CARE

Although the best place for your children to receive medical care is your pediatrician’s office, we know that your kids don’t always wait for office hours to get sick or injured. Urgent care facilities are advertised as one option to quickly address health issues that don’t require a trip to the emergency room. However, we and our families have encountered some issues that you should be aware of when seeking after-hours care.

Urgent care facilities lack access to your child’s medical history, and often do not have staff who are trained in pediatric care. As a result, they may miss problems, overprescribe antibiotics, or misdose medications.

If you are ever unsure of where to go or what to do when your child is sick or injured, please do not hesitate to call our office to either speak to a phone nurse or the after hours on-call doctor!  We can help you determine the best possible option of care for your child, such as a pediatric emergency room, urgent care, a telemedicine visit, or waiting until the next day to be seen in our office.

You are not bothering us by calling. We are your patient-centered medical home, and we are here to provide the best possible care for your family.

We want to remind you that we offer:

  • Walk-in sick visits Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 8:45 AM at the Bingham Farms office
  • Telemedicine appointments
  • Quick updates or changes to a physical/sports form if you have been seen within the last 12 months -  you do not need to go to urgent care!

If you need a last minute physical, please call, as we are often able to accommodate either same-day appointments or appointments within a few days.
